Mission Statement

The purpose of the Muskogee High School Library Media program is to provide students and staff intellectual and physical access to ideas and information, to stimulate interest in using information and ideas, to instruct students in how to find, evaluate and use information and to instill in the students an enjoyment and appreciation of literature. Basic information skills must be taught and followed up with assignments that give practice in those skills. To achieve these purposes, the library media specialist select the best materials available, efficiently organize and circulate these resources in a centralized collection, and team up with the teacher to plan a program of instruction for students. A coordinated effort and commitment of the district, school administration and school staff contributes to the success of the program.

Library Rules

No food or drink is allowed in the media center. Students must have a pass from class to be in the media center during class hours unless accompanied by their teacher.

Library Resources

Seating capacity in the media center is 150.  The library media center houses some 15,000+ titles, including numerous microforms, software programs, and computer databases that are accessed via the Internet.  It has been reorganized in order to efficiently accommodate students and staff.  An online card catalog program allows students to search for materials available from the MHS  Library Media Center on any of the 82 computers located in four labs.  The computer labs also provide access to holdings of all Muskogee Schools by using the Union OPAC search icon. Internet, the Microsoft Office package and subscription databases are also found on our computer labs.

One class area has been equipped to serve students who need special resources for English projects.  The other class section houses the Multicultural Collection (African-American History, Native American History and Oklahoma History) volumes.  A TV and DVR/VCR is available in each classroom area.  Books in these areas have been color coded accordingly.  A separate area houses general reference materials, including back issues of magazines, etc. fiction, biography and non-fiction books.  A microfiche reader/printer, periodical indexes, and microforms are located near both resources areas for retrospective searches.
